Deputy Seneschal

The Deputy Seneschal is responsible directly to the Shire Seneschal and also to members at the monthly meetings.

The position of Deputy Seneschal is usually for the purpose of training the proposed next Shire Seneshal in the duties and obligations of the position of Shire Seneschal. It is recommended that a person is found for this position 12 months before the Seneschal intends to step down from office. Also, after a Seneschal steps down and a new Seneschal is appointed, the immediate past Seneschal may become the Deputy Seneschal for a short period to ensure a smooth transition between Officers.

The Deputy Seneschal must always consult with the Seneschal before undertaking any responsibilities on behalf of the Shire and is therefore in effect the 'Word of the Seneschal'. It is highly advisable for the Deputy Seneschal to accompany the Seneschal to meetings and to other Seneschal obligations to see how the Seneschal represents the Shire.

This person does NOT automatically become Seneschal when the current seneschal steps down from the position, and must apply for the position as does any other person who wants to serve the Shire in the Seneschal's Office.
